Khoon Hooi rode against the conventional tide when he found success abroad, although first launching and basing his career in Malaysia. Breaking into the fashion scene when he won the Asian Young Designers Award in 1997, KhoonHooi’s success can be attributed to his perseverance and never-give-up approach, seen when during a holiday trip to Paris, he lugged along his portfolio and boldly knocked on the door of as many fashion agents as he could.

His hard work paid off when in 2006, he was one of three designers, and the only Malaysian designer chosen by an agent to be represented in the US while showing at the Singapore Fashion Week. Bravo Khoon Hoi 😀

Hola 😀 Previously on spotlight I’ve been covering about Bernard Chandran & Jimmy Choo. For this time I would like to write about  New York-based Malaysian fashion designer Zang Toi! *clap!clap!*
To make a woman feel bold, beautiful, sexy, dramatic and glamorous is what ZangToi’s designs strive to do. And that is precisely what ZangToi designs have achieved.  Not surprising then, would this New York-based designer have styled many glamorous celebrities such as Sharon Stone, Ivana Trump, Kirstie Alley, Meg Ryan, and many others.
 Zang Toi
In 1991 Toi won the Mouton-Cadet Young Designers Award, surprising many considering the competition he faced that day. His most recent award of distinction was presented by New York City Public Advocate Mark J. Green for Toi’s artistic contributions and achievements. In March 1997, Toi was awarded a knighthood by the Sultan of Kelantan. Mr. Toi is also a recipient of The International Center in New York’s Award of Excellence.
Kelantan-born Toi, who has built a strong presence in New York over the past 20 years, is the only Malaysian ranked among Americans of Chinese origin to wield such influence in American life. Weahoo!! Congrats Zang Toi 😀 For more details about the latest collection you can log on to
